Ed Wade vs. Shawn Chacon

General Manager versus Pitcher.

Hot head versus Mr. Calm, Cool, Collected.

Which story should we believe?

I have been a Phillies fan all my life and happen to know Ed Wade personally and know his personality. I have interviewed him quite a few times and have had general conversations with him

He is one of the most quiet, collected, non-confrontational GMs in all of baseball. Read the rest of this entry »

9th and Final Inning

Fresno State is the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball National Champion!!!!

Fresno State had a chance to add an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning when they had a runner on third base with less than two outs but weren’t able to push a 7th run home.

Georgia, heading into the bottom of the 9th inning, needed 5 runs to tie and 6 runs to win a title but fell short in doing so. Georgia put the first two men on base and then stranded them there. Georgia stranded 10 runners all night. The final score:

Fresno State 6

Georgia 1

Fresno State wins the best of three series 2 games to 1.

Fresno State’s Tommy Mendonca (3B) was named the CWS’ Most Outstanding Player as he went 3-13 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs.

Fresno State has completed one of the most magical runs in sports history with their first-ever National Championship in baseball. They become only the second team to lose the first game of the best of three series and win the title. Oregon State did it in 2006, their first of two straight titles (2006, 2007).

Congratulations to the Fresno State Bulldogs!

8th Inning

Fresno State stranded two runners on base in the top of the 8th inning, at first and third, and still lead Georgia 6-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

Fresno State needs 6 outs to secure their first National Championship in their baseball program’s history.

Georgia has 6 outs to tie this game and pray for a win. If they can tie and win this game it would be their second title since 1990.

Head Coach David Perno played on that 1990 team as an infielder.

In the bottom of the inning Georgia’s Gordon Beckham got his team on the board with a solo home run, his 28th of the season, which is good for 1st in the NCAA.

The home run was only the 5th hit allowed by Fresno State starter Justin Wilson in eight innings of work.

Heading to the ninth the Bulldogs lead Georgia 6-1.

3 outs left in Georgia’s season and more importantly, 3 outs left until Fresno State becomes National Champs.

7th Inning

The Bulldogs finally went down quietly in the 7th inning but still lead Georgia 6-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of the 7th Georgia, which is running out of outs, couldn’t push a run across home plate once again. They have now left 8 men on base. Georgia had runners at first and second with two out…they have squandered countless opportunities tonight.

The most surprising Cinderella team in college sports history is now only 6 outs away from a National Championship.

The fans at Rosenblatt Stadium are witnessning history in the making as the game is in the 8th inning.

5th and 6th Innings

We played through a scoreless 5th inning in Omaha and the two teams move onto the 6th with Fresno State in front of Georgia by a score fo 3-0.

Fresno State pitcher Justin Wilson has 8 strikeouts in 5 innings. He has allowed only 4 hits and no walks.

In the 6th…

The Bulldogs of Fresno State put up 3 more runs on Detwiler’s second home run of the game, this time to left field. The rally came with two outs and was started with a double. The ball hit off of the top of the wall in left field, just inches below the yellow line, which saved Georgia a run, for the time being.

After his at-bat in the 6th inning, Detwiler is 7 for 12 with 3 home runs in the tournament to go along with 6 RBIs just in this game alone. He has driven in 9 runs in the tournament. He had 3 RBIs coming into tonight’s game. Yes, Detwiler has driven in all 6 Fresno State runs. Detwiler is a sophomore, a sophomore, and is carrying this Fresno State team in an elimination game.

In the bottom of the inning Georgia went down without a whisper; 1,2,3.

On to the 7th inning we go in Omaha.

3rd Inning

We are through 3 innings in Omaha and Fresno State still has a 2-0 lead on Georgia.

Fresno has flashed some leather in this game. Georgia has as well. But the obvious difference from last night to tonight is the pitching for both teams. Pitchers aren’t leaving fastballs in the middle of the plate for hitters to send flying into the gaps or deep into the Omaha night.

Control has been a factor tonight as well. Last night, pitchers for both teams walke a combined 13 hitters. So far tonight there has yet to be a walk allowed.

Georgia used 7 different pitchers in the game to only 3 for Fresno State. There was a total of 370 pitches thrown between the two teams.

In the top of the 4th, Steve Detwiler hit a monster double to the left centerfield gap to drive in the third run of the night for Fresno State, giving them a 3-0 lead. He has driven in all 3 runs for the Bulldogs.

In the bottom of the inning Georgia put a runner on third with a one out triple but failed to drive him home as their next two hitters struck out. Georgia has left 6 runners on base. Fresno State starting pitcher , Justin Wilson has 7 strikeouts through 4 innings pitched.

We head to the 5th with Fresno State up 3-0.

2nd Inning

Fresno State struck first.

Steve Detwiler hit his 2nd home run of the College World Series in the top of the 2nd inning, a two run shot to right field that grazed the top of the yellow line and bounced into the stands.

Georgia threatened to tie it in the bottom of the 2nd when they loaded the basees with two out but couldn’t push a run across home plate.

Top 3: 2-0 Fresno State

College World Series Final!!

I thought this day would never come!

I love baseball, esecially college baseball, and this is my Christmas Day!

In a best of three series between Georgia and Fresno State, tonight is the final game, winner take all!

Georgia, down three in game one, came back to win 7-6 after a four run 8th inning.

Fresno State, down 5-0 in game two last night stormed back to win, knocking off Georgia 19-10.

Stay with us all night as we blog live during game three of the College World Series.

It is the bottom of the first and we are scoreless in Omaha.

Fresno State is 5-0 in the CWS when facing elimination in 2008. They have defeated five different top 20 teams eight times in the tournament. They are the only un-ranked team in any NCAA Championship to play for the tite.

On to the second inning we go. Fresno State is the visitor.
